The present St. Patrick’s Church was erected by Rev. James Dunne PP in 1868. It replaced a thatched church dating from about 1790. The architect was William Hague Jr., Cavan and the contractors were McGennis, Tullyvin, Cootehill. It cost £1,386. Seats were provided in 1898 by Rev. John Brady PP.

In 1953 the church was renovated by Rev. James Brady PP. Walls were re-pointed or re-plastered, the wooden sanctuary floor was replaced and tiled, a new marble altar was installed to replace the original wooden altar and the interior decoration was renewed. The cost was £3,416. The architect was Mr Leonard of Byrne & Co. Dublin, and the contractors were Elliot & Co., Cavan.

New mahogany seats and central heating were installed for the centenary in 1968.
The Jubilee Year 2000 saw the church truly completed with the installation of a beautiful gothic-style reredos to enshrine the tabernacle – now restored to a central position. This reredos was generously offered by the Capuchin Community of Church St., Dublin and re-erected by Donal McDonald of Kilkenny. The rearranged sanctuary has a Carlow stone floor with a new Mass altar and ambo of marble.

Extensive upgrading and redecoration cost £220,000. Architects were Richard Pierce and Noel Smith. The main contractor was Peter Maguire of Milltown, Belturbet. Rev. Seán Mawn together with Rev. PJ Corrigan and local committee co-ordinated the work.
