Fr Donald Hannon, Pastor Emeritus

1938 – 2024

It is with deep regret that the Diocese of Kilmore announces the death of Fr Donald Hannon, Pastor Emeritus, Parochial House, Arva, Co. Cavan.

+ Born 24 May 1938, son of the late James Hannon and Agnes O’Reilly, Dundalk, Co. Louth
+ Ordained to the priesthood at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, on 23 June 1963
+ Appointed CC Denn – 1963
+ Appointed CC Knockbride – 1968
+ Appointed CC Kiltyclogher – 1973
+ Appointed CC Ballyjamesduff – 1981
+ Appointed PP Kinawley (Swanlinbar) – 1993
+ Appointed CC Arva – 2013
+ Retired from Active Ministry – 2022
+ Returned to the House of the Father – 10 November 2024
 
Sincere sympathy and heartfelt condolences are extended to Fr Donald’s family: his sister Carmel; nephews (Ryan, Paul, Philip and Julius); nieces (Caroline, Ayesha and Tara); cousins (Bosco, Helen, Kathleen and Marian); Bishop Martin Hayes, Bishop-Emeritus  Leo O’Reilly, and his fellow clergy of the Diocese of Kilmore, his extended family, his beloved parishioners in Arva and the others parishes where he ministered; and his large circle of friends, especially Anne and Bill as well as his devoted carer, Norma.
 
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Fr Donald will repose at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan, today (Monday) from 5:00pm until 7:00pm.

Removal on Tuesday to Sacred Heart Church in Arva at 2:45pm, via Hannon’s Way, Broad Road and Main Street to repose from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.

Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 1:00pm. with interment afterwards in Coronea Cemetery .

At Fr Donald’s request donations in lieu of flowers to the Sacred Heart Church (Arva) Renovation Fund.
