The new church, built in 1984, was erected on the site of an old church, which was erected in 1839. Two Parish Priests (whose graves were inside the old church and now remain inside the new) were Rev. Hugh Brady, who erected the old church and died in 1850, and Rev. John Mathews, PP from 1860 until his death on 14th Dec. 1862.

The church is octagonal in shape, which ensures that everybody in the congregation is close to the altar. It was built by a local contractor, Michael Cusack. The architect firm was Gaffney and Cullivan.

Canon Michael O’Reilly, who had the responsibility of erecting the building, is buried just outside the church, as are seven other Parish Priests who served the Parish during the 20th Century.
